Many congratulations to Team Cherrybank who managed to run the gruelling 26.2 miles (42.2K) in the Vienna Marathon to raise money for Parkinsons UK.

The team consisted of Dr Elaine Halley, Cameron Philip and patients Jenny Jameson and Kristina Philip. Jenny is a patient of Cherrybank Dental Spa in Perth and Kristina of Cherrybank Dental Spa in Edinburgh.

More than 41,000 people took place in the Austrian running festival on Sunday 13th April – the same day as the London marathon. Fortunately, the weather was perfect – overcast and slightly drizzly – perfect for the Scottish training!! The race started with a bridge over the River Danube and the course wove in and around the beautiful city of Vienna with its historic buildings and green parks.

Most people including Kristina were running the half-marathon. Some crazy fools (the rest of our team) were in for the full distance. Kristina sped round the half course in well under 2 hrs. Cameron gained a PB in 4hrs 4 minutes (he’ll have to do another one to break the 4hr!!), Jenny floated along seemingly effortlessly in just over 5hrs and as for Dr Halley – well, nursing an injury she managed to run 18K and then had to hop, stretch, hobble and run the rest – but she DID IT in just over 51/2 hours which is pretty good going – with the help of a few nurofen!

Between us we raised over £1200 for research into Parkinsons . Thank you very much to everyone who sponsored us and helped to raise awareness of their efforts. We are very proud but glad that we are all back safely and everyone has a reprieve from running war stories – until next year!
