Christmas Drinks Cracker!

Cherrybank Team Blog – from Janice Beckett, Front Desk Co-ordinator

Never known to pass up an occasion to celebrate, last week (given that it was Thursday-Friday evening) the Cherrybank team eschewed the instant in-house brews and decided to sample the delights on offer from one of the high-street coffee-temples.

Normally, cappuccinos, lattes and even a racy double espresso are the order of the day but, oh joy! “Festive Drinks” were on the menu. And, since it’s nearly Christmas, these party girls were in heaven.

However, a few days later, the full cost of these exquisite beverages came to haunt us…like the ghost of Christmas past. A selection of these festive beauties, from various outlets, were analysed and their sugar content was noted. It ranged from 9 to the dizzying heights of 14 teaspoons of sugar, in one drink. We won’t even mention the calorie count.

Granted, these bad boys were never masquerading as a sugar-free option, what with their velvety Belgian chocolate – topped with cream – lushness (yes, sadly, the biggest culprits on the menu were chocolate based), but 14 teaspoons of sugar? That’s a serious amount of sweetness.

It’s worth noting that some of the special coffees contained as much as 6 teaspoons of sugar: the entire amount of an adult’s recommended daily sugar intake, in one sitting. Imagine adding a cheeky mince pie to this scenario? Help!

In no way do we want to be the Bah-Humbug of your festive treats this Christmas. However, perhaps it’s wise if we encourage you to spare a thought for your greatest asset – your beautiful smile – and approach your oral health with some care and attention this winter season?

Remember, your smile is yours to enjoy all year round – not just for Christmas.

Have fun and enjoy in ‘moderation’.

Happy Christmas.
