Gayle Kiddie

Gayle is one of our dental hygienist/therapists based in our Perth practice. 

Before entering the dental profession Gayle worked in the medical field gaining her BSc in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Abertay. 

She worked for a leading medical diagnostic tests company in Dundee but decided that she would rather be interacting with the patient rather than writing a report for them to read. 

This led her onto her chosen course at Dundee University where she qualified with a BSc in Oral Health science. 

Since 2002 dental therapist have been working in general dental practice, prior to this their job placements were always community or dental hospitals. Due to therapist in practice being a fairly new concept in the general practice & some dental professionals are sometimes unsure of the remit of a dental therapist which include all that of a dental hygienist plus; 

  • Extracting deciduous teeth
  • Undertaking the pulp therapy treatment of deciduous teeth.
  • Placing pre formed crowns on deciduous teeth.
  • Providing emergency temporary replacement of crowns and fillings.
  • Treating patients under conscious sedation
  • All direct fillings on both adults & children

 

Dental Therapists are highly trained in the treatment of patients who are: 

  • Dentally anxious.
  • Medically compromised.
  • Physically disabled.
  • Who have learning disabilities.
  • Have high levels of untreated decay.
