Initial Gum Disease Assessment
At Cherrybank Dental Spa our wish is for all our patients who come to our Perth or Edinburgh spas to achieve optimum oral health. We have a highly skilled hygiene team who are dedicated to help you have control over your oral health.
We believe our systems and expertise in this area are second to none.
Periodontal (Gum) Disease affects approximately 80% of the population in the UK and is also known as the “silent disease” as it often doesn’t initially show any obvious signs or cause any pain.
Untreated Gum disease will results in the breakdown of the structures holding the teeth in place and thus teeth fall out. There are also much wider consequenses to your overall health.
Our Hygienists will thoroughly assess your mouth looking for signs of gum infection and will also carry out a risk assessment to determine how prone you are to gum disease. Unfortunately the presence of this disease can be genetic which is why all of our patients undergo genetic testing which is a very simple test that is sent to the laboratory. Having this information allows us to plan the appropriate bespoke care for you.
Once we have collected all of the information there are 3 outcomes-:
1. Healthy – no sign of gum disease
2. Gingivitis - Mild Gum Disease
3. Periodontal Disease – Established/- Advance Gum Disease
We have different therapies to treat each type of gum disease and we have had great successes with our patients.
No “cleaning” will take place at this first appointment but treatment will be initiated by lowering the bacterial levels and introducing oxygen into the gum area which helps to prepare the gum tissue prior to any treatment therapies.
Healthy gums essentially equate to healthy solid foundations for your teeth and this is so important to achieve complete oral health which contributes to your total health.
