What exactly is Botox®?

BOTOX® is a mild purified toxin injected beneath the skin that eliminates wrinkles by relaxing the muscles of the face. BOTOX® helps to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth, at the corners of the eyes, and on the forehead.

These treatments are safe and have been used on millions of patients worldwide. Although most people are good candidates for wrinkle reduction treatments, if you are pregnant, taking certain medications, or have specific conditions, some treatments may not be right for you. Schedule a consultation with our practice to find out if you are a candidate for a BOTOX® or JUVEDERM® procedures.

Many of our patients find that our wrinkle reducing treatments such as BOTOX® and JUVEDERM® are great alternatives to invasive plastic surgery procedures such as a facelifts or eye lifts.

Although the treatment is temporary, it does eliminate wrinkles for up to six months and can be repeated to maintain the desired effect. At Cherrybank Dental Spa, not only can we restore dental health, but we can also eliminate wrinkles around the forehead, eyes, chin, and mouth, improving the beauty and well-being of our patients.

How is Botox used?

Botox is commonly used to treat muscles of the upper portion of the face. Lines form in three main areas; horizontal forehead lines, vertical lines between the eye brow and ‘crow’s feet’ lines around the eye’s. It is these lines which become permanent as we age.

Treating these muscles with Botox prevents them from working so hard that they create severe static lines. Static lines are when they become apparent even when no expression is made.

It is achievable to prevent lines becoming permanent as we age. They cannot appear if we don’t constantly crease our skin. Like the material linen- once a crease is made time and time again the material marks and holds that crease.

The safety profile of Botox is excellent and has been well documented in it’s use for over 20 years. Botox is not a poison. It is an isolated, purified protein which temporarily relaxes the muscle. The effects of Botox last for around 3 months. The muscles return to their original strength when not re-treated.

Men and women’s skin and facial expressions work in the same way. It therefore makes sense that these treatments are for both sexes. All treatments are tailored for each individual and their wishes.
